Toledo ranks 14th in nation in construction job growth

Northwest Ohio is a hotbed for construction work.

A November 2016 Associated General Contractors report highlights the Toledo metropolitan area as highly competitive, ranking it 14th in the nation for construction job expansion.

The AGC report showed the region saw an 11 percent growth in construction jobs compared to 2015, which equates to approximately 1,500 construction jobs created.

“Overall, the employment picture for construction workers is positive – the number of metro areas adding construction jobs in the past year was more than triple the number that lost jobs,” said Ken Simonson, AGC Chief Economist.

As the leaders in Mechanical Insulators in the Toledo area, the Western Lake Erie Insulation Industry also saw growth during that same timeframe. Simply put, our workforce grew as our contractors successfully won more bids than the previous year, making 2016 a record-breaking year for the industry.

Our highly-trained and highly-skilled workforce safely applied their skills on a record number of jobs, including the Oregon Clean Energy and the downtown ProMedica Headquarters project.

Both project will keep our members busy well into 2017 and helped solidify Toledo as the state’s center for job creation within the construction and insulation industry.

Energy Efficiency Tax Credit Bill Introduced To Congress

Bipartisan energy efficiency legislation was introduced to the House of Representatives in July.

House Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Linda Sánchez (D-CA) and U.S. Congressman Tom Reed (R-NY), both members of the Ways and Means Committee, introduced the bill to create jobs and promote energy efficiency.

Known as The Mechanical Insulation Installation Incentive Act of 2017, the legislation aims to reduce U.S. energy consumption by improving energy efficiency.

“Improving industrial and commercial energy efficiency has been a priority for many years, but unfortunately mechanical insulation has been largely overlooked,” said Sánchez in statement.

“It is a vital component in constructing and maintaining high-performance, energy-efficient buildings and protect our environment. This bill would encourage more manufacturing facilities, office buildings, schools, hospitals, power plants, hotels, and universities to invest in improving the energy efficiency of their buildings and machinery. I’m proud to join with Rep. Tom Reed to introduce this important bipartisan legislation,” she said.

If the legislation becomes law, there will be an immediate need in northwest Ohio and southern Michigan to increase the amount of highly-skilled and highly-trained Mechanical Insulators.
